Children of Dune |

We didn't have a CoD thread yet but we did talk about it in the Topless Thread in Pictures. So I decided to copy those posts here as the start of a new
thread, since I have something to say about it today..

A little warning though.. if you haven't read at least the first book of Dune, do not expect to understand one bit of it Mae.
Thanks for the extra 2 pics Emilie, but I still like that very first Dune pic you posted in here sooooo much better. I mean.. the look in his eyes, the litlle twist in his shoulder, the way the light falls on his torso..

Yeah it's called Dune.. they are all called Dune though..
If you want the fast approach you can also rent the TV series (not the David lynch film). The series are very bad, but if you have seen that you will hopefully understand 'Children of' better since that is a continuation of the same series, with the same actors even. |

If I remember correctly, Dune is a very long book, Mae. |

It is a nice book though, so if you like to read Sci-Fi/fantasy like stuff you may be way better off reading the book.. it's only like 400 pages or so?

Even that plot summary is confusing, but at least it gives you some idea of the characters and their motivations. Hope
you enjoy the film!

I remember when Dune and Children of Dune premiered on television. Confused the hell out of me. All I can really remember are the glowing eyes, awakening
inside the womb, and giant worms with really really sharp teeth. I had no idea James was in it until I came on this board.

You pretty much summed it up there Reti!
I just remembered the worms and I still think they are fascinating as hell. My fav bits in all three film/shows are the scenes with the worms. I like it that the worms in the film have a mouth that opens with three triangle flaps, and that the worms in the series have rows and rows and rows of teeth. And they don't have an upside or downside. And they can get HUGE. And they are attracted to all rythmycal vibrations in the ground And they can only be killed if you kill each seperate segment.. I mean.. WOW!!!! (<- worm lover |

Holy shit hannah
Did you get into Dune because James was in it, or do you just have an innate love of worms?

I am into SciFi quite badly. When I was a student I lived in a dorm where there were a couple of guys with shelfs full of SF books. They loved Dune and I
remember seeing bits of it with them when it was on TV but I could not follow the story (because too much happens inside peoples headsin the book to do a good
film adaptation of it I think) but I do remember the worms, they had a huge impact on me. So eventhough I didn't know the story I never forgot those and
everytime I was in any kind of desert landscape I imagined those huge worms moving under the sand. (I have been in the dune landscape where they filmed large
bits of Star Wars and I think Dune (the film) as well. That was cool)
So when I found out about James and his role in the adaptation of the third Dune book (ar rather the adaptation of the 2nd and 3th as I later found out) I figured it was time to read (at least the first) book. I loved it, but ever since I saw the weak adaptation for the TV series, I like it less because it shows some huge flaws in the story that you don't notice in the book that well, but that really jump out at you when you try to adapt it for the screen.. I don't think you can understand one damn bit of the story if you don't read the book(s) though.. There is a thread on CoD and Dune in JMO where people try to explain the background a bit better, so you can also try reading that to get more inside if you don't feel like reading the book... (Wait, this not the Dune thread.. do we have one yet?) |

Well.. it IS the Dune thread now, thanks to the amazing new copy and split thread techniques on YUKU since the past push this week.
I have started watching it again. I never could get past the first part but I have watched it just now and only the beginning was bad. I guess I am used to the actors and their bad acting by now and mostly to the ridiculous hats...
I am now at the start of episode 2 that starts with the twins, except that here my DVD has decided to start skipping bits, so I need to fix that before I can watch the rest (which may be for later, because James or no James, I am a bit Dune-fedd-up after watching the first episode right now..) |

According to IMDb she is a different actress than in Dune, and she was the Borg
Queen in Star Trek: First Contact!
