Would anyone who has seen Becoming Jane care to share any thoughts about it? Do James and Anne Hathaway have
chemistry? What are your favorite or least favorite parts?

I haven't seen it yet, but just read a rather bad review of it, which surprised me because the ones I heard before were all rather good.
I am kinda curious what James fans thought of it too (If anyone who has seen it wishes to answer please be carefull with spoilers though. I was already quite dissappointed after seeing the US trailer, since I felt like they already gave away the whole story! grrr
I think I saw somewhere that there is a really neat way to hide spoilers on Yuku though, so I will look into how to do that and then post it in the admin forum later! )
I did think he look rather scrumptious in those outfits and with his hair on the side combed to the front.. And did anybody else go weak from the smile when he said 'widenend' *swoon*

I haven't actually seen it either, have to wait until the DVD in September. I'm pretty annoyed that I have to go to university two weeks after it's
released; I'll just have to do my best to absorb every second of it I can before I leave. I'm dying to hear everyone's thoughts about it
once it's released in the States, and because I'm an incorrigible spoiler whore you'll all have to make good use of the spoiler function
Having said that, I don't think there are any spoilers in the rest of my post, none that people won't already be aware of. I've also read mixed reviews, but I honestly feel that it's sheer stuffiness (for want of a better word - I shouldn't write after drinking wine ) on the part of the detractors. I know quite a lot about the
period, and a reasonable amount about Austen herself, and actually find it pretty offensive that people should argue against her experiencing passion. We tend
to patronise people from that era by insinuating that they were buttoned-up prudes who never laughed, loved, had sex, enjoyed life. The filmmakers are almost
certainly overreaching the Austen/Lefroy romance quite a bit, but why not speculate? The only thing I find a little irritating is the implication by the film
that it took a man to inspire Austen's writing, but then again women have long been objectified as muses in literature, so conversely it could be a
refreshing take on artistic expression. After all, nobody complained about the fictional Viola in Shakespeare In Love. But aside from that, I have
high hopes for the film. Anne Hathaway is one of these actresses who I just love irrationally; I'm not sure why, but I warm to the fact that she seems
intelligent and has a bit of an attitude, and I adore the way she looks as Austen, despite the obvious physical discrepancy between her appearance and that of
the real Jane. And we all know how I feel about James...
So all in all, I can't wait.
*edited to add* By the way, on the subject of the DVD, I checked out the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) website today, which has to pass all material that is broadcast in the UK and always lists DVD contents, and it turns out that there's a really rather decent amount of stuff included on the Region 2 Becoming Jane DVD. I'll fetch the links... Here we go: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/SearchClassifiedWorks/?SearchView&Query=(%20[Title]%20contains%20"BECOMING%20JANE")%20and%20((%20[TypeOfMedia]%20contains%20Film)%20OR%20(%20[TypeOfMedia]%20contains%20Video))&SearchMax=50

Hey, thanks for those links MQ, it looks like some relly nice extra's on there. An hour of behind the scenes footage and almost 20 minutes of deleted
scenes. That is a lot of extra James! Woohoo!!

If he is in the deleted scenes! Though he most likely will be! I always like deleted scenes! And it's cool there's a documentary on there as well

Well, yes that is true, but since he is a maincharacter I think there is a good chance he may be in the extra's a lot.
Off course you never know untill you see them. I expected him to be in the Extra's at the Narnia DVD too, but he was only there for like 5 minutes!
And he was only in the The Pool extra's for 0.5 seconds and the shot was on it's head too!

I saw the film a few months ago when it came out in the UK, although I expected much more, since it is a (fictional) biography of one of the most famous
writers in English literature, I really loved James as Tom Lefroy. I think the film was well-casted.
The only reason why I didn't love the film, was because there were only two or three scenes where she is inspired to write. I thought the film would go deeper into her thoughts and her writing and how Lefroy inspired her. Rather I felt it was much more on the superficial level. Because whenever she was peeved with Lefroy she would start writing about how much she loathed him, and I was like, ok, is that it? But I'm still going to purchase the DVD because James is in it

I had expected him to be in the Narnia extra's more as well! I was like a where's James! And you don't see much of him apart from the bit where
they tell about his character...
That is a shame actually....I would expect they would go into her thoughts and writing as well.... |

Remember that I said I was going to check in the arthouse I work when the BJ and Atonement trailers would be coming? Today I walk in for a shift and what do I see at the table? A trailersize film box with a sticker on it saying 'Becoming Jane'. So I go AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
and the other operator comes over and I ask him: Is this in front of any film yet? So we open the box and it is empty (so yes) so I turn around to the film I am suppose to put in the projector in that very booth and it turns out it was put in front of that one! So naturally I started that film (twice that evening) . Too bad it was too busy to let my colleague start it while I watched it in the theatre though. But
it is in front of a film I was already going to see this week with a friend anyway, so I will be seeing it from inside the theatre soon as well!!
I must say this Euro version may be less spoilerish than the US version, but the US version has much more cute James in it, so it wasn't as nice as I expected, but I am still very happy to know it will be shown in the arthouse and not the cinema (since the arthouse is free for me, so I will be able to see it as often as I want!)
What was LESS nice to find out.. BJ has actually been the Sneak Preview film of LAST WEEK!! So I could have seen it last tuesday already!!
And most of my shifts I always check the log to see what the next sneak film will be, but of course THAT one week I didn't..
Another collegue did find out that there is a pre-premiere on august 12 though, so I will go see it then (if it is restictred I will simply be there to 'help' the operator on shift and we will simply say I HAVE to be inside the theatre to check sound and image and stuff..)
It is only a few days before the premiere though, but at least that makes the wait a little less longer..
(BTW I also asked them to keep an eye out for Atonement.. I really hope that will come to the arthouse as well instead of the cinema)
