Me too Carbon, I want James to be successful and have a career which people notice and give him the recognition he deserves as an amazing talent. But I really
don't think the trilogy will work. What more can they do to add to the story? The whole point of Wanted was seeing Wesley's transformation, wasn't
it? He can't change anymore... Or can he?

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the screenwriters come up with. This is, after all, Hollywood. Anything is possible
After checking the totals...thus far, Wanted has made, world wide $94,165,220. The breakdown is: Domestic: $61,912,585 Foreign: $32,252,635 With a production budget of $75 million, that is nice profit. No wonder a trilogy is in the talks. Keep in mind, it has not opened in all markets yet, so there is still a lot of money to be made. I know I'll go back and see it a couple more times to add to the Domestic total

Why can't he do both commercial and art house? That is what most of the A-list people do. I'd go see both.
Besides most of the "independent" movie companies such as "Fine Line", "PictureHouse" (which produced Penelope and SF10), "Working Title", "Fox Searchlights" have all been shutdown or folded into the parent company in the past few months. There is too much risk in small films for the industry right now so they are going to distribute that risk throughout the parent company, but also reduce the number of independent films they produce. An article in the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago said that the industry feels that is "okay". They say there will be FEWER art house/independent/niche movies but hopefully they will be better. Maybe, but it should be our decision what we want to watch not theirs. Remember Atonement (Working Title), TLKS (Fox Searchlight) and BJ (Irish Film Board) were not a blockbusters. In the future these movies will have a harder time being greenlit and new emerging talent may never have the opportunities that James had. So as much as we all love the small films, it may not be feasible for actors to have as many opportunities as in the past 10 years. JMHO.
Thankfully, James has a resume' that will now allow him to "decide his destiny" and to navigate the industry as he wishes. I'm sure that is what we all want for him and we are just along for the ride. AND IT SHOULD BE AN EXCITING RIDE! Check out the documentary 100 Movies and a Funeral about the demise of "Working Title" Films which was shut down because Phillips (like the light bulbs) got a new CEO and didn't want the risk anymore. BTW - I just came back from watching it a third time - in the afternoon. Everyone was in their 60's and 70's, several women alone and I was nervous about how they would react to the violence and swearing. THEY
LOVED IT. A few gasp at the opening scene but they laughed at the right places and left smiling. YEA!

60's and 70's?
Wow...I don't know if my mother would like to watch it!
Plus, I'm certain she can't handle "beaten-up James"...she suffered enough for him in Atonement.

That is a scary idea elsie.. It least there may still be small films done in Europe.. But I rather have James making
art-films then blockbusters as well. Maybe if he makes enough money he can start his own production company and finance his own (small) films.. ?

elsie wrote: Maybe. I suppose I'd just hate to see him typecast. He's really demonstrated a lot of versatility in the past few years, and I'd hate him to be
some sort of Hollywood lap dog. He seems like a smart guy though, so I hope not. In defense of indie films, there are plenty that are validly independent. Yes
that means they dont get the distribution or promotion of those other companies, but their quality still is top notch. And like Hannah said, I think it's a
bit different in Britain. BBC films, IFB, Film Four.....all those companies still exist and make quality pictures. Selfishly, I'd love James to have a
career like his fellow RSAMD alumni, Alan Cumming. Theater, film, telly. Pure brilliant. But thats me, projecting |

It's a shame when the smaller films and production houses have to suffer for the sake of the blockbuster. If the larger companies would produce better
films, then the smaller production companies that were under their umbrella would not have to suffer.
Let's face it, that past couple summers have not been what the Big Boys were expecting, even with films like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End and The Harry Potter films. For every 2 or 3 good movies that are released, there are 10-12 bombs. The movie industry needs the art house film. Can you image watching the Oscars and seeing the likes of 4 summer blockbusters up for best picture? I'm not quite sure why they give them such a hard time. Atonement had a film budget of around $30 million. It's worldwide gross was $128,086,555. Not a bad profit for an art house film. James is a very versatile and talented actor. IMO, he will find a way to do both blockbusters and art house films. He is an actor, one who seems to genuinely care about his craft. I certainly hope he stays that way.

I have some good news! Wanted will indeed become a video game!!! Someone asked him on his livejournal (yes, he actually has a livejournal), and he said that he had already seen the beta version of it, and that it will be out soon. He also sort of confirmed that there will be a trilogy! |

Oh boy! My younger brother is going to love that. I wouldn't want to buy the video game because I know I'll never play it, so
I'll just buy it for him and sit and watch as he plays.

When do we get our action toys???
He seems like a smart guy though, so I hope not. In defense of indie films, there are plenty that are validly independent. BBC films, IFB, Film Four.....I agree Carbonyard and Hannah. He seems smart enough to navigate both, especially with his resume' now. I also agree about the British and European production companies, at least that is what I'm counting on. I think we may already be seeing that since The Last Station is a "totally German" production (or something to that effect was stated in the photo call video in April.) |

Just read this on IMDB: Apparently James' star meter is #1!
Does anyone have a Pro account there? I don't know what it says.

I just found out that you don't need an IMDB Pro account to access this information. On the homepage the top left corner it says "Tops at the Box
Office". Click on more and then scroll down and you'll see the information. Here is what I found:
STARmeter Top 5 week of 4 July 2008 Rank Name 1 James McAvoy 2 Angelina Jolie 3 Will Smith 4 Christian Bale 5 Heath Ledger Great news for James!!

I have to vent a moment. I am so tired of all the James and "Wanted" bashing on the IMDB boards. It is mainly young males. I don't get it. It
has to be jealousy. But I just don't understand why? They don't do that to other male stars. Do you think Brad Pitt went through this, too? There
is a woman on James' IMDB that said she is being harrassed badly at work because she likes James and his acting. She is even the boss!! I sure hope James
doesn't ever read any of those mean things. He must know that for the few horrible naysayers, there are millions of fans.

Brad gets his share of slamming on IMBD, that is just how some posters do things. They are just mean and let's not forget it can be troll heaven over
there.
As for your friend getting teased about her choice of movie actors she likes, that's a bit over board, especially since she is the boss. I'm sorry to hear that she has to go through that. I get my own teasing. Hubby just rolls his eyes...Oh, if he only knew how deep this obsession went
