Queen of Green
Straight after collecting her Best Actress prize at today's Critics' Circle Awards, Anne-Marie Duff jumped in a car from the Prince of Wales theatre to the Dorchester Hotel and another lunchtime ceremony, the 12th annual South Bank Show Awards, where she collected the day's second major award for Saint Joan.
The South Bank Awards, now in their 12th year and run by the ITV cultural programme, honour the UK's creative talent across a wide range of the arts. Duff - accompanied at both ceremonies by her actor-husband James McAvoy (pictured with Duff), most recently seen on screen in Atonement - accepted the Theatre trophy on behalf of the rest of the cast and creative team of the National Theatre's production of Shaw's Saint Joan, which ran in the NT Olivier last year as part of the Travelex £10 Season.
The big - non-theatre - excitement at the South Bank Awards was the presentation of Outstanding Achievement in the Arts to Harry Potter author JK Rowling. The Awards also cover Film, Comedy, TV Drama, Pop Music, Literature, Classical Music, Visual Arts, Opera and Dance. There are special prizes for diversity (Arts Council England Decibel Award) and newcomers (The Times Breakthrough Award).
