I wouldn't consider myself in the thick of the festival so the protests have not impacted me. I've seen some picketers outside one of the theatres, but that's about it.

I went to the gala premiere of The Damned United on Monday night. I was determined to get down to the red carpet early so I could stake out a good spot to see Michael Sheen. I arrived at 7:30 (the movie was to start at 9:30) and there were only a handful of people waiting. By the time 9:00 p.m. arrived, the crowed had swelled to about 150. I was getting worried for poor Michael! A red carpet with only 30 people waiting??

The movie is about the short yet dynamic managerial career of football (soccer) coach Brian Clough. The story takes place in the late 60's/early 70's. Not being from the UK, I'd never heard of this man but when it came to watching the movie, it didn't matter. Michael Sheen's portrayal of this character was riveting. He made it interesting even if you didn't know the story.

YES, I did get to see and meet Michael Sheen! He was very friendly and quite humble. He signed my Frost Nixon dvd for me.

Taking a bow after the film:

I saw two movies yesterday - The Joneses with Demi Moore and David Duchovney and Michael Moore's Capitolism:A Love Story. Both were very good. Michael Moore does it again and does it well with this one - highlighting the plight of working class America's job loss and foreclosure crisis and exposing corporate greed.

Both these movies were regular screenings and there were no stars in attendance.

I have two days off now. (I need them!) My next films are on Friday with Ricky Gervais's The Invention of Lying and Glorious 39 with Romola Garai.
