I am so glad that some of you are finally getting to see it!! I can't wait to read more about what you thought of it.

When I saw it I knew that A.O. Scot would not like it (I remembered his Atonement review very well) and others like him - the ones who seem to miss subtlety and charm when it's not in a well labeled box, so to speak. And I could have predicted those reviews that complain about the "secondary story" of Valentin taking away from the main story... well, Valentin IS the main story - he's the lead. It is not, and was never intended to be, a biopic of Tolstoy. It happens to take place in the last year of his life.

And JM is sooooo flawless in this film - and plays it so well that it's not acting any more. That's why it won't be noticed by many looking for drama. But that's ok. The people who matter to JM's career (like the Robert Redfords, etc in the business) know how good he is.

Again - can't wait to read what you thought about it now that you've seen it!
