Let me tell you as a New Yorker - this is just typical of them. They just don't care about movies like this one (about a Russian writer, it should be about a writer during WWll). It does'nt have Brad or George or Meryl in it. The director is not Martin Scorsese or Jason Reitman (their new golden boy). Years ago New York reviewers looked at the movie for what it was, not the names behind it. There is no one I would look to for their reviews anymore. Chris Plummer and Helen Mirren (who I think are both wonderful, esp. Helen) are not big enough names. They don't have any idea who Kerry or Anne-Marie are that's why they do'nt write about them. It has nothing to do about their performance. They know Paul and write about him. They know James, I think they can'nt bring themselves to say they like him. None of them are from America so why bother(that's how I think they feel) . I like them and watch their movies because they are British, Irish, Scottish they are so good at their craft. So much better then most American actors. That's how my friends and I see these reviewers . We would always look to the NY Times to see what they like, we have'nt done that in years. I was hoping they would write something good about him, but what can you do. We all know how good they all are.
