I'm hoping it's a scheduling conflict and not the cynical thought that came to me that the new money guys would only pay up with a bigger name on the lead and the conflict is just a polite way of putting in the publicity.
I thnk Toby M. is a fine actor, but I think JM would be much better in this. Arg.

I noticed that too, state. Seems like it's a more high profile project now with Tobey attached. ?? I sure hope you're wrong, gensing, and that's not the reason James dropped out. But it does make one wonder, doesn't it. I would think James would bring more prestige to a production than would Tobey. ??

Maybe a letter to the production company expressing disappointment in the casting change? Can't find an email addy but here is their address and fax number.

Now there is a ridiculous amount of press on this - more than was presented when the news hit about the project in general. I am leaning in the same direction as Gensing pointed out here - Tobey a bigger name and draw? Interesting over at IMDb on Tobey's page there are no posts regarding this news! Maybe they figure James has not proven himself as a box office draw on his own - he had Keira, and Angelina co-starring which are both draws and were credited with being the draw for both films.

If that be the case that they were being polite what a shame and even more a shame if he doesn't have W2 as well. He did say in that TDoR video where he announced his involvement in The Details, that if Angelina was in for W2 it was a go. As much as I wish he would have opted to get out of W2 to do The Details - I hope he now at least has W2.

Now I'm not sure what Tobey's fan bases AGE Group are, but I suspect there are more kids involved here with all the Spiderman movies (up to doing 4 now). The Details script is quite adult with adult content and SEX (not your conventional sex either). TM's fans will have to come with an Adult and thats even if they are allowed to go!

I'm getting sick of all these comic action movies being made and sequels to them - but obviously there is a demand for them.

There are also a lot of new (same footage just more vids) of Wanted Videos hitting youtube coming from all sources, so maybe they are hyping up for the filming of W2?

I've said before on another thread but I'm really disappointed by this news. I really hope that the new financial backers did not think as in the quote above. If they did, then forgive me for using capitals, but what a STUPID decision (terrible urge to use an expletive there). I really wonder what this 'scheduling conflict' can be though. Is it possibly for 'Wanted 2'? Maybe for something else we don't know about? However, somewhere it said that 'The Details' was beginning to start filming again in August. Therefore technically it should finish by the time we presume that Wanted will start filming. Unless as someone said before he has to work out a month before, in which case there will be a possible conflict. I really hope JM successfully starts something new soon though. It would have been perfect if he could have done 'The Details' over the summer and then perhaps signed onto his new project in due course. Actually it would have been even better if he decided to do more projects last year before the credit crunch really sunk in but oh well

I really, really, really hope it's for something we don't know about yet.

But if The Details starts filming mid-August, I would think it would be wrapped by mid-October....a 2-mo. shoot? When Timur talked about it, I pictured a November start date for Wanted 2 for some reason. Don't know if James would really have enough clout to be able to push up the shooting schedule. So that would be pretty close to when Wanted would start filming, and he does have to prep for it. I think he started working out for Wanted six weeks in advance, but in that one they could film his nebbishy scenes first so he didn't have to be assassin Wesley on the first day of filming....unlike this one that picks up where the first one left off. So I'd think he'd have to start working with his trainer sometime in September? And if Wanted 2 is a 4-mo. shoot like Wanted, that's going to be pretty tight if he wants to be available for something else come March...

Stateside - Unfortunately, I think you're right that James wasn't seen as the draw for Wanted, Atonement...even LKOS by those in the industry.

Too bad he couldn't have done Perrier's Bounty last winter...it filmed Nov. through Jan.

I know Helen. I wonder why both AM and JM dropped out of it? It would be brilliant to see them together in another film. I know some people may think that's overkill with them appearing together in the Last Station as well but they are cute together so I don't mind

Seeing as The Last Station is taking AGES to be distributed

So annoying. I really hope something is confirmed soon for JM whether that be the Hobbit, Wanted 2...At the moment we're just really trying to speculate our best about his schedule but we want facts!

The info source about The Details on IMDb (who was correct both times with information she provided) says that James had dropped out before the additional financing was secured and he wasn't eased out. The other actors had the luxury to wait for the production company to get their act together, but James didn't.

Hope that means they'll announce soon the source of the scheduling conflict.

I think we would have to know for certain that it was a conscious decision on their side to replace James by Tobey, and so far all news about it says something different. So I think it really was about James dropping out as soon as the financing fell through, because otherwise they could have had the production up and running again by now. But having to find another lead could have very well been what has slowed them down. So I think it would be weird to write a letter to them when it was indeed James and his people that made the decision.
But if - in the near future - we get a quote by James or a statement from his agency that they did swap him with Tobey against his will, I am all for writing a letter!

Gen - WITD PM'd the source that alerted us to the financial problems and casting change and was able to get that info and permission to share it. Keeping fingers crossed that it's true and we'll hear something very soon about what's on his schedule. If he has something on his schedule for August/September, seems like we should have heard something by now.

I wonder why it is that there's not an official announcement about James's films/participation until they're ready to start shooting. Don't know if it's because they're independent films and flying by the seat of their pants or what. I believe he was the first to sign for The Last Station, but didn't hear anything about it until right before they started filming. We know there's no guarantee that just because he signs for a film it's actually going to be made, but it sure would be nice to know what films he's attached to pending all the horses getting in the starting gate.
