I didn't see another thread started for this, so here goes...
The festival kicked off Thursday night (Sept. 10th). I saw my first film last night - Perrier's Bounty. I believe both James and Anne-Marie were slated to do this film way back when but didn't. It stars Cillian Murphy (Red Eye, Batman Begins), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Harry Potter), Jim Broadbent (Bridget Jones + tons of other films), and Jodie Whittaker in the female lead. I'm not familiar with her other work.
It's an Irish film set in Dublin. It's well-acted, quite violent, and funny. And if you think James's accent is difficult to understand at times, the thick Irish accents of this cast really puts your ears to the test! The director, Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson attended the screening and did a Q&A afterwards. (It was the world premiere of the film.) Currently, they only have distribution for Ireland and the UK but are hoping to get a U.S. distribution deal.
A pic from the Q&A:
Also last night, I headed down to another venue to the gala premiere of Dorian Gray starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. I didn't have a ticket for the film. I was most interested in seeing Colin Firth in the flesh. (Yes, I'm that shallow. haha) Ben Barnes arrived and was very giving to the fans. He walked a long line of fans signing autographs and taking pictures. We all stood in anticipation of Colin Firth arriving but he ended up being a no-show. I was crushed!!!
I'm not at all familiar with Ben Barnes, but I'd like to be! Damn, he was hot! Pic of Ben Barnes:
Today, I didn't have a film but my friends did tonight. I met them for coffee in the afternoon in the hub of activity - Yorkville. It was crazy busy today! Then we decided to head down to the theatre that had the gala screening of George Clooney's new movie (he had two at this year's festival) Up In The Air also starring Jason Bateman (who attended the gala also). When he pulled up, the crowd went crazy!!! He was such a gentleman. He spent over 40 minutes walking up and down the street signing stuff - all with a big smile on his face. There was a crush of cameras like you wouldn't believe. I took over a dozen photos of him and then my camera flashed back at me "READ ERROR". I almost wept. I managed to save only two of my photos. Anyway, it was SUCH a thrill to see him up close.
George:
Tomorrow, Oprah Winfrey's movie Precious has it's gala premiere. The movie stars Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz. (No, it's not a musical! haha). I don't have a ticket for this one either but I may pop down to the red carpet. I need to sort out my camera woes first though!
My next film is the gala premiere of The Damned United on Monday night, starring Michael Sheen, Colm, Meaney, and Jim Broadbent. I REALLY want to see Michael Sheen up close and personal too!
I'll come back and report more when there's more to tell.
