Ok, I have to go back and address everybody. NikkiAnn: It was VERY exciting to see George Clooney so close. I took my camera into the shop and they said it was definately a defective memory card. I had trouble with it in December just a few months after I bought it. I lost dozens of photos I took when I was over in the Isle of Man (UK). I was told then that it was a formatting problem but now they're saying it's defective. I'm picking up a new one today.
State: Too bad you couldn't make it! I remember us saying we were going to try to meet up. George was signing hundreds of autographs with a bandaged hand, so couldn't you come to Toronto with a bandaged elbow? Helen: We tried to get tickets to Up In The Air when we submitted our film choices but we didn't get it. Didn't get The Informant either. I couldn't figure out if I'd seen Ben Barnes before but I just read that he was Prince Caspian in the follow-up Narnia film. I didn't see that film but I thought he looke familiar. I didn't know that Colin Firth had won Best Actor! Excellent! I just love him. Alas, he's one of the ones I really wanted to see in person this year.
Larisa: I had a feeling you weren't too far from the red carpets! You got some really great shots at the Goats premiere! You always manage to snag a good spot to stand. I'm at The Damned United gala tonight (I have a ticket to this one) and I'm planning to go down early to try to catch Michael Sheen arriving. I have to see him!!! I saw Domenic Cooper (and Keira) last year when they were here for The Duchess.

Last night I popped down to the gala screening of Precious, the movie that Oprah Winfrey produced. I didn't have a ticket. I was just there to watch the arrivals. I saw Oprah, her best friend, Gayle King, Mariah Carey, Tyler Perry, Mary J. Blige, Sheri Shepherd, and Robert DiNero. I have a few pics and I'll post them a little later today. As you can imagine, there were hundreds of people there going crazy and I was in a spot that worked well Friday night when Ben Barnes arrived but it wasn't as good last night. My pics are from fairly far away. I'll also post my extra George Clooney shots that were retrieved from the memory card.

A protest at the Toronto International Film Festival has taken center stage after a group of artists and writers signed a letter of protest against the festival's decision to spotlight the city of Tel Aviv. Activists say the TIFF spotlight plays into Israel's attempt to improve its global image in the wake of the assault on the Gaza Strip and the ongoing occupation of Palestinian land. Over 1,500 people have signed the letter, called "The Toronto Declaration: No Celebration of Occupation," including Jane Fonda, Viggo Mortensen, Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte. We speak with journalist and author Naomi Klein, who helped draft the letter. [includes rush transcript

Popped into Yorkville for an hour today - for a little shopping and potential star-gazing. I was walking by Holt Renfrew (an upscale clothing department store in Toronto) and there was a black limo parked on the street at the front door. I thought, hmmmm, somebody famous is in there shopping. I hung outside for about 15 minutes drinking my coffee and out of the store dashed Romola Garai and into the limo.
Briony shops at Holts!

Michael Sheen did seem very friendly. He has a shy smile. He's quite low-key (like James) - not flashy or attention-seeking like some. I doubt very many people would have known who Romola was if she had been just walking along the street. She was dressed in normal day-wear - nothing that would draw your attention to the fact that she's an actress.
Enjoy your movies, Larisa. I'd like to hear about them afterwards. I'll let you know how The Invention of Lying and Glorious 39 were.

I can't believe you were there and we didn't see each other! I was off to the left of the tent. Yes, Emily and Rupert were lovely. I wasn't doing the autograph thing but when Rupert came up to us I said, "Welcome to Toronto" and smiled at him. He smiled back and said, "Thank you very much. It's nice to be here." I find nobody really talks to them when they come by - they just shout their names until they come by or say nothing. The same with James at the stage door. When I was there nobody said anything to him so I piped up and told him congratulations on a great performance and how much I loved the play, etc, etc..
I was quite delighted to see how friendly Sarah Ferguson was. When she got out of the car, she didn't hesitate to walk all the way down to the end of the line and start signing autographs and posing for pictures. Her daughters are so lovely.
Here's the best of what I got last night: Sarah, Beatrice and Eugenie
Rupert Friend Emily Blunt So, that's it for TIFF. Oprah Winfrey's movie, Precious, won the People's Choice award. I didn't see it, so I can't say whether it deserved it or not. Of the six films I saw, the ones I liked the most were Michael Sheen in The Damned United, Ricky Gervais' The Invention of Lying (which had me crying because I was laughing so hard), and Michael Moore's Capitalism:A Love Story.
