An assistant at an auction house masterminds the heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. He is the only one who knows where the painting’s location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hire a female hypnotist to get into his brain. McAvoy will play Simon, the shady leader of the gang who partners with the assistant. The plan is to being shooting in September, but once filming is

YES! I'd love for James and Danny Boyle to work together!! Actually, I'd love for James to work with all the top directors!!! He deserves it and hopefully that's one thing that will help get him noticed for various awards. ![]() Here's the original Variety story: http://www.showblitz.com/...g-to-go-into-trance.html
Update: Fox Searchlight has corrected Variety’s story telling us James McAvoy is up for a different role than the one Michael Fassbender was circling. There is no word yet on whether or not Fassbender is still involved in the picture, but fingers crossed the duo reteam for Boyle’s film.
Looks like Magneto has been foiled yet again.
Variety reports that James McAvoy is in early talks to star in Danny Boyle‘s “Trance,” subbing in for Michael Fassbender who was previously in talks but dropped out. The thriller will tell the story of an assistant at an auction house who masterminds a heist and teams up with a gang of thieves only to suffer a blow to the head and wake up with amnesia. As the only person who knew the location of the stolen painting, the assistant is then subjected to analysis from a hypnotist as the gang begin to suspect duplicity. McAvoy is eyeing the role of Simon, the shady gang leader who partners with the assistant.
The plan is for Boyle to start production on the film in September. Then we’ll wait as he will transition over to his Olympic duties where he’s acting as one of the creative heads for the 2012 London festivities, before returning to the film a year later around August 2012 to edit and prep the film for a 2013 release. So it’s a long wait, but we’re certain it’ll be worth it.
For McAvoy, it will mark a very busy rest of the year, as he shoots the Brit crime pic “Welcome to the Punch” this summer before moving over to the Danny Boyle film.

Adding to what Helen just posted, take a look at this: One May Be Out, One Is Definitely In But McAvoy NOT Replacing Fassbender In Danny Boyle's TRANCEReports of James McAvoy steeping in to the lead of Danny Boyle's upcoming Trance are mostly correct. Twitch has learned that while McAvoy is indeed in talks to talk the lead on Boyle's heist thriller Trance, and while we are also told that Michael Fassbender has indeed had to step away from the project, reports that McAvoy is replacing Fassbender are not correct. How so? Because Fassbender was never the lead in the first place. Fassbender was in talks to join the film in a primary support role as a character named Aiden while McAvoy is being signed on to play the TRUE lead, a character named Simon. So, yes, one is in and one may be out but it's not a one replacing the other scenario. Why say may be out on Fassbender? Because there are also reports from within Fox that Fassbender remains attached, though that is very much disputed in other circles. http://twitchfilm.com/news/2011/06/ones-out-ones-in-but-mcavoy-not-replacing-fassbender-in-danny-boyles-trance.php

I came on the board to post this - I was so happy to read this
as I was a bit miffed at the blogs saying JM was replacing Fassy as if
McAvoy was the second choice. ![]() So... it turns out McAvoy is up to STAR in the film and Fassy was up for another role... good. I so did not want to have to hate Fassbender! ![]() Here's the updated Variety article. (Shame on them for not noting it's updated to correct their reporting mistake.
And what if Fassbender is still attached? Half of me says 'how cool would that be!!!" and the other half says "it's a bit too soon, don't you think?"

I was happy to read that also. Everyone wants to make it out
that Michael is to busy and James is the second thought for the role.
But it seems to be that James is the one up for the Lead Role and
Michael for a main Supporting Role. It would be nice to see them
together in a movie again, I just hope it's another X-Men movie. I
think it's to Michael's avantage to work with him again, because I
still feel it was James who brought out the best in him. So far I would
love to see James in any of the four films that he has been rumored to
be in talks with. But working with Danny Boyle would be the BEST. My
top three favorite Boyle films-- 28 Days Later, Trainspotting and
Sunshine, I remember when I first saw 'Trainspotting', I found it hard
to understand what they were saying, but at the time, I would. I just
fell in love with the accent and the movie was sick. I'm not one for
zombie movies, but what he did with '28 Days' was great. I'm not on IMDb or twitter but I want to post for people there the other interviews James has done with his co-stars. I keep reading how James is, I guess flirting with Michael in their interviews. You know how he touches people and says certain things, he always does that they just don't know it. Yes, he is a big flirt, but in a innocent way. He is the one in the interviews that makes them fun. If you watch Michael on his own he's O.K. but with James that's a different story, it's magic. I saw this on twitter, a fan from a Fass. Blog asked about Trance: Is he is or out? RT @twitchfilm News: One's Out, One's In But McAvoy NOT Replacing Fassbender In Danny Boyle's TRANCE Also the film is listed now on James IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1924429/ Hope it's correct!!

Yeah, I read a couple industry bloggers say it was
disappointing that James is replacing Fassy--like he's good, but he's no
Fassbender. I wanted to do this to the smug little SOBs:
I like what Cinema Blend said:As amazing as Fassbender is, you're not going to hear me complaining about this casting choice. McAvoy is one of the best actors going right now and mixing his talent with the skills of a director like Boyle has the potential to be gold. Shame that we won't see the result until 2013."I keep reading how James is, I guess flirting with Michael in their interviews. You know how he touches people and says certain things, he always does that they just don't know it. Yes, he is a big flirt, but in a innocent way. He is the one in the interviews that makes them fun. If you watch Michael on his own he's O.K. but with James that's a different story, it's magic." IMO he was a little more touchy/feely in the interviews w/ Michael than I've seen him in a while. In fact, I kind of felt like the fact that Michael is a guy might have freed him up to be even more exuberant and demonstrative than usual--at least partly because he didn't have to be concerned about being inappropriate.

twitch film: Fassbender Out Of Boyle's TRANCE, Boyle Wants Firth And JohanssonWhen word came out in late June that James McAvoy had taken the lead in Danny Boyle's Trance it was widely assumed that McAvoy had replaced Michael Fassbender, who had previously been announced in the cast. That wasn't true - the two men were cast in different parts, with McAvoy as 'Simon' and Fassbender as 'Aiden' - but while McAvoy hadn't pushed Fassbender out or replaced him in any way there were continued rumblings that Fassbender had had to walk away from the project due to scheduling issues. Here at Twitch we heard the 'Fassbender is out' news from a couple of reliable sources - and reported on it here - but the official word from the film's backers remained that Fassbender was in and all was well. Well, not only have we confirmed that Fassbender is definitely out but we also know who Boyle wants to replace him, along with one other significant cast addition. Twitch is hearing that Colin Firth and Scarlett Johannson have emerged as Danny Boyle's top choices for the major supporting roles in his upcoming art-heist-gone-wrong thriller. Though no formal offers have yet been made, the two stars are apparently Boyle's favored picks for the roles of Aiden and Elizabeth. And, based on the casting process thus far, who Boyle wants, Boyle gets. The affinity for Firth is certainly no surprise, given the actor's stellar career in which he most recently earned an Academy Award for his portrayal of King George VI in The King's Speech. Firth also appears in the upcoming Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In) spy thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Johansson is said to be the current favorite from Boyle's short list (which we hear also includes Zoe Saldana and Mélanie Thierry). We will of course keep you apprised as the casting process firms up. http://twitchfilm.com/news/2011/07/fassbender-out-of-boyles-trance-boyle-wants-firth-and-johansson.php So Boyle wants Firth for the role of Aiden and Johansson for the part of the hypnotist. So from this, James is still in the running for Simon?

So Boyle wants Firth for the role of Aiden and Johansson for the part of the hypnotist. So from this, James is still in the running for Simon?Twitch is of the opinion that James has the role. Don't know yet how reliable a source Todd Brown of Twitch is, but he seems confident. ![]() Nezray on IMDb (who seems to be married to an industry insider) says that there used to be a clause in 3-picture-deal contracts (like Fassbender and James have) that prohibited actors from working with other actors in the franchise until the end of the commitment as a way to protect their fledgling blockbusters. So maybe when Fassy exited the film it gave Boyle the opportunity to approach James?

TwitchFilm
is reporting that Colin Firth has passed on Trance and Boyle has an
offer out to Vincent Cassel. I think I've only seen Cassel in Black
Swan. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is a good casting choice? Vincent Cassel Offered Aiden In Danny Boyle's TRANCEThe role of Aiden is proving to be tough to fill for Danny Boyle's Trance. A key support character in the Trainspotting director's upcoming heist thriller, Aiden appeared to be the first part nailed down with Michael Fassbender originally signed to play the role. But right around the time that James McAvoy signed to take the lead role of Simon in the picture rumors also began to surface that Fassbender had left due to scheduling issues.Official word at the time was that Fassbender was still in but we confirmed at the beginning of July that he was, in fact, gone and were told at the time that Boyle's top choice to replace him was Colin Firth. But it can be hard to nail down a recent Oscar winner and Firth, too, has turned the part down due to schedule issues though whether those issues are due to his current part in the Coen Brothers scripted Gambit or some other project - he currently has an untitled dark comedy directed by Dante Ariola listed in pre-production - is not immediately clear. So where to next? We're told Boyle and the producers of Trance currently have an offer out to Vincent Cassel to fill the part. And since we are of the opinion that pretty much any film can be made better through the addition of Cassel - one of the most charismatic performers on the planet - it follows that we'd be more than a little bit curious to see how the French actor would mesh with Boyle and his crew. And assuming that the IMDB listing is accurate - never a sure bet, moreso with actors based overseas - it would appear that Cassel has the time to do it as Trance is scheduled to shoot before the end of the year and Cassel has nothing listed until the 2012 production of Dobermann 2. This will all, of course, be entirely dependent on Cassel saying 'yes'. But what say you? Are McAvoy and Cassel a duo you would pay to see?

Hadn't thought of that, gensing. LOL Maybe they'll change his name/nationality.
![]() Here's what The Playlist is saying about it: It’s an offer story! So don’t put too much in this yet as it just means some phone calls are being made and not much else. But still, when it comes something like Danny Boyle‘s forthcoming “Trance,” we suppose we’ll have to take updates where we can. First a bit of history: Michael Fassbender was first attached in May to the film about an employee of an auction house who recruits a gang for a heist, only to wake with amnesia and forget the location of the stolen painting, leading to the suspicious thieves bringing in a hypnotist. Fassbender was in talks for the leader of the robbers, with James McAvoy following and lined up to play the amnesiac. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Fassbender dropped out and while Colin Firth was said to be a desired replacement, an offer has been floated to someone else entirely. Twitch reveals that none other than Vincent Cassel has been given to the chance to RSVP for the role. Fans of foreign cinema already know how awesome Cassel is but to North American auds, the actor is best known for playing Francois in “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen” as well as being Natalie Portman‘s demanding dance director in “Black Swan.” The choice is undeniably a great one but whether or not it pans out remains to be seen. There has also been no word on the female lead with Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana and Mélanie Thierry all listed as contenders over the July 4th holiday weekend, but we’re sure news will come soon enough. As exciting as the movie sounds, it will be a bit of a ways off. The plan is for Boyle to start filming in September, and then the rushes will be put on ice as the director focuses on his London Olympics duties. Then in August 2012 he will go back to the film and start editing for a release in early 2013.

Danny has no need to slum it with this Docklands penthouseSlumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle has been viewing penthouses to rent in Canary Wharf — but not because he is responsible for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics just up the road at Stratford.Boyle is after a suitably swish pad to feature in his next film, Trance, which will star James McEvoy and Rosario Dawson. The movie isn’t set for release until 2013 but with the Games to think about, the director is keen to film scenes now. He has been looking at flats in East India Dock with the help of Chesterton Humberts’ Docklands office (020 7510 8300). http://www.homesandproper...homesgossip20110824.html

The Last Station was that way. Here's the item on TTB: Tuppence Middleton falls into a deep “Trance”Tuppence Middleton has signed on for Danny Boyle’s crime thriller TRANCE, with Danny Sapani also offered one of the lead roles in the film. James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, and Vincent Cassel have already been attached to the project. From http://www.wwd.com/fashio...ops/in-a-trance-5186712:
IN A TRANCE: Beyoncé Knowles and mother Tina turned Selfridges’ car park into a glitzy runway Saturday night to launch the duo’s House of Deréon label in the U.K. The collection, which launches exclusively at Selfridges in the U.K. this week, was inspired by the idea of a “global nomad.” Models stalked down the runway to a mix of Beyoncé’s tracks, clad in looks that worked in ikat prints, sequins, feathers and beading. Rosario Dawson, Ellie Goulding and members of British band The Saturdays all took in the show. Dawson is in London shooting Danny Boyle’s new film, “Trance.” “It’s about a heist. I [play] a woman caught between two men,” she disclosed.
