I'm jumping the gun a bit, but since James is signed on for this movie and it's supposed to start filming in January, and since several of us either are or have read the book, I thought we could give it its own thread to start discussing it. I'm making this a spoiler thread so you can post your thoughts without having to put them in spoiler tags.
I'm still reading the book. Have to say it's not a book I'm eager to get back to when I stop reading it--in part because the character is so nasty--but I'm going to try very hard to finish it this weekend, so hopefully we can start talking about it next week. I'm really interested to hear others' take on the character and on James playing the character.
One thing I'll say now: compared to the complex, misanthropic life form that is DS Bruce Robertson, the tapeworm--one of the lowest and simplest of life forms--which inhabits his body and waxes philosophical at times is likeable.
Robertson is described in a lot of reviews as a misanthrope. For those whose native language is not English, a misanthrope is someone who generally hates and distrusts everyone. That describes Bruce Robertson to a T. Google the word misanthropy and see what you find. Warning: it's not pretty.
