Myriad Teams James McAvoy And Jessica Chastain In ‘Disappearance’ Double Feature| Monday May 21, 2012 @ 9:28pm EDT Tuesday, May 22, 2012…Cannes…. Golden Globe®-nominee James McAvoy (Atonement, X-Men First Class) will star opposite Academy® Award-nominee Jessica Chastain (The Help, The Tree of Life) in the double-feature film project for Myriad Pictures, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her. Ned Benson (In Defiance of Gravity) wrote the two scripts and will direct both films. The love story explores how a married couple in New York City deals with an emotional, life-altering experience, from the two different perspectives of the husband, Conor, (McAvoy), a restaurant owner, and of the wife, Eleanor, (Chastain), who goes back to college. Cassandra Kulukundis (A Late Quartet, In Defiance of Gravity) is producing. Kulukundis is also casting director (There Will Be Blood, Shattered Glass). James McAvoy received a Golden Globe®-nomination for his performance opposite Kiera Knightley in the critically acclaimed film, Atonement. Other film credits include The Last King of Scotland with Forrest Whitaker, The Last Station with Helen Mirren and most recently in the box office hit X Men: First Class. He will next be seen starring in the new Danny Boyle film, Trance, in Eran Creevy’s, Welcome to the Punch and in Jon S. Baird’s, Filth. James is represented by UTA and United Agents. Jessica Chastain was nominated for an Academy® Award for her performance in the 2011 critically-acclaimed drama The Help. The same year she appeared in The Debt, with Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson, and in Terence Malick’s The Tree of Life. Jessica stars with Shia LaBeouf and Guy Pearce in The Weinstein Company’s Lawless, and the actress is in Cannes this week promoting the film. Jessica is also starring in Kathryn Bigelow’s new film Zero Dark Thirty. Myriad Pictures is pre-selling the title in Cannes this week. CEO Kirk D’Amico said, “I am thrilled that we can share the excitement of James joining the cast with our buyers in Cannes, who have been so enthusiastic about the project from the beginning. James is one of the finest actors working today and I look forward to seeing Ned’s rich, complex characters come alive.” Myriad presented the scripts to buyers at the European Film Market, who were intrigued by the concept. “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby represents an alternate approach to content,” said D’Amico. “New distribution models make it creatively possible for feature films to break out of the format of one 90- minute experience.” But both films will be stand-alone movies. D’Amico added, “We have to make both films work on their own, both for the buyers but also for the audiences. Together these films will describe a fully, more complete look at these characters and their lives.” |

Island I´m happy to find a person that think the same than me!! ![]() I have received this in my email minutes ago ( google alert :P ). It is almost the same article.... What do you think of this new? it seems to be "confirmed" James McAvoy joins Chastain in 'Rigby' Actor to star in Myriad's double-feature project James McAvoy will star opposite Jessica Chastain in Myriad Pictures' double-feature film project "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him" and "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her." Ned Benson wrote the two scripts and will direct both films. Shooting is set to start in July. Myriad had announced the two-film project in February, prior to the Berlin market, with Chastain and Joel Edgerton signed on to star in a love story that explores a New York City couple's relationship during a difficult time in their marriage from the perspectives of the restaurant-owner husband and of the wife, who goes back to college. Each film will be a stand-alone movie. Cassandra Kulukundis is producing. McAvoy will next be seen starring in Danny Boyle's "Trance," Eran Creevy's "Welcome to the Punch" and Jon S. Baird's "Filth." Thesp is represented by UTA and United Agents. Chastain stars with Shia LaBeouf and Guy Pearce in the Weinstein Co.'s "Lawless," which screened Saturday at Cannes. Myriad Pictures is pre-selling "Eleanor Rigby" in Cannes this week. " 'The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby' represents an alternate approach to content," said Myriad topper Kirk D'Amico. "New distribution models make it creatively possible for feature films to break out of the format of one 90-minute experience. We have to make both films work on their own, both for the buyers but also for the audiences. Together these films will describe a fully, more complete look at these characters and their lives." Benson wrote two Black List scripts -- "In Defiance of Gravity" and "Too" -- along with "Real Life With Carter Canby," in development with Working Title Films, and "David Fingerhut's Greatest Hits" for Michael London's Groundswell Films. He is represented by UTA. SOURCE |

Thanks for posting the news, Island.
I see the story is also in Variety--though I can't see it because I don't subscribe--so it's definitely 'official.' I've only seen Chastain in The Help and The Debt, and I liked her. She's definitely the current 'it' girl. What does everyone else think?
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one getting tired of the Fassy penis
envy. I loved James and Fassy as a team in XMFC, but it does seem like
he's relishing the notoriety a bit too much. I'd think it would be
better for people to be talking about his talent rather than his penis.
But then if he wants to be a Hollywood heartthrob, maybe he's fine with
it. I agree, Island, that some of the photo shoots he's done feed into
that. I know James has done some "heartthrob" photo shoots too, but none
have been that in your face. For example, the photo shoot he did for
Mean Magazine where he's in bed with a t-shirt on (sexy, provocative.
amusing) vs. the ones of Fassy supposedly naked in bed w/ the sheet as
far down as it can go w/o revealing too much. Subtle it's not. ![]() All in all, I think it's better to known primarily as a great actor who's also sexy than to be known primarily as a sex symbol who can also act. I'm afraid that's where Fassy is heading. |

When it appears in Variety, Vale, that means it's happening.
![]() BTW Found out James replaced Joel Edgerton: http://thefilmstage.com/n...chastain-still-attached/ BTW2 Two of Benson's scripts appeared on The Black List--that's an annual list of Hollywood's best unproduced scripts. So hopefully that bodes well for these scripts.

Yeah! it
is good! for the synopsis that I have read about the movie I think that
it would be more interesting for me than Welcome to The Punch or
Trance....
Yes, I really want to see James in Filth, but I like more love stories

It does sound interesting and I can't wait to hear more about
the film in the coming weeks. I haven't seen any of the movies Jessica
Chastain has been in so I can't comment on her. I just know that she
is, like Helen said the current "it" girl. And that she has been
getting great reviews from the work she has been doing.
After filming three movies in Europe this past year I am so happy to hear he'll be filming this one in NYC this summer.

More thoughts on the films. I think this is the $64 question:
From JoBlo.com: So Schmoes - if you saw one of the films and were sufficiently intrigued, would you still be willing to catch the other? Or would you feel frustrated in the sense of not being able to take in the whole spectrum of story with one viewing? Collider: The press release indicates both films will “work on their own,” but I am much more interested in how and where they intertwine. I hope to see the release plan in the next announcement. Will they come out at the same time, or does one perspective necessarily precede the other? Either way (and with all due respect to Edgerton), McAvoy and Chastain are reliably great, perfect for such a risky idea. Film School Rejects: While there’s no indication of just what that life-altering experience is, the film is also billed specifically as a love story, so take from that what you will. Of course, the title could be totally goddamn literal and Chastain could be named after a Beatles song and she could disappear, but I’d hope that such a bold venture would actually have a a less obvious story than that behind it. The question is, of course, if audiences will turn out for both films. Movie Cultists: However, it looks like the actor will have two chances at making a strong impression in one film, or maybe it’s two films in one, or even a back-to-back double feature. Remember double features? Yeah, I have some age on me. Katey Rich in Cinema Blend: Though he made a straight-up excellent Charles Xavier in last year's X-Men: First Class, James McAvoy tends to get forgotten when you think back to that movie-- it's hard to outshine Michael Fassbender's Magneto and the outlandish dullness of January Jones's Emma Frost, after all. But that's always been one of McAvoy's skills, slipping into a role so seamlessly that he makes it perfect without drawing attention to himself-- see his turn as the doomed Robbie in Atonement, or the shocked observer to Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland. That quiet turn in First Class means it feels like it's been forever since McAvoy was onscreen--well, that and his starring role in Robert Redford's The Conspirator, which absolutely nobody saw. So it's good to hear that not only does he have the British indies Filth and Welcome to the Punch coming later this year, but he's signed to another film with the actress you absolutely couldn't miss in 2011: Jessica Chastain. We don't know a whole lot about the story, except that McAvoy will play a restaurant owner and Chastain his wife, who goes back to college. The two films cover the same story from the male and female perspective, as the couple goes through a rough patch in their relationship and presumably experience things very differently. It's unclear why it will take two movies to tell two sides of one story-- films like Massy Tadjedin's Last Night do something similar in a swift running time-- but the chance to see Chastain and McAvoy act opposite each other means there's no room for complaints. Feel free to add any comments you think necessary on these sites. ![]() |

From @mshikuma: Probably one of the best scripts I read last
summer. So glad it's getting made with such talented people!
Niralle: I had the same reaction as Island to Filth. I had to read a few more pages for my "A-ha!" moment, but I rushed through the last 100 pages or so. Hang in there! ![]()

I just I should just keep trucking through it, although I've
put Filth on hold for now. A friend of mine just got her novel, "The
Siren" published a couple weeks ago, and I'm scarfing that one down.
Haha--it's erotica. And I'm on chapter 14, getting into the good
stuff.

I immediately felt for Bruce despite his awful personality, I don't know why, I just knew from the beginning why he was like that.

Good sales in Cannes esp w/ Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. Announced James McAvoy. Buyers who have read love scripts and idea of shooting and making 2 films at same time. We will premiere both films at same time. Shooting in NYC in July. |

Signs that Eleanor Rigby is getting ready to film in the East Village of NYC starting on or before July 9:
Looks like we need an Eleanor Rigby forum for the film. |
