To start off I need to say: I don't like rules. What I want for this board is that members will feel free to post whatever they want in a safe and judgement free environment and concentrate on having fun instead of on making sure they are not breaking any rules. But you do need to agree on some things to make a Message Board work.
So I have a few rules and requests for you all in an effort to try and keep the atmosphere up and the board readable.
This is all 'almost without saying' stuff, but I thought I would post it here anyway:
1. Use normal Forum Etiquette:
- Try to write proper English. Mostly for me because I am a bit dislexic. So I would really
appreciate it if you would write the word 'you' instead of the letter 'u' for instance and if you use proper punctuation and capitals at the
beginning of a sentence
HOWEVER: If your English is not perfect, don't worry about it. We also very much welcome people from other countries that may still have some trouble with the language. We will find a way to understand eachother! So as long as you try your best to write as readable as you can, it's fine
- If you have a question, please search the forums first to see if it isn't adressed somewhere
else already first.
- If you make a new topic, try to make sure you put it in the right forum and check if it is not a topic
that already exists, or if your posts could maybe fit into an already existing topic.
HOWEVER: Don't be afraid to start new topics. If it is in the wrong forum, it is very easy for me to move it and if you ask a question that is already adressed and you missed it, someone will simply point you in the right direction or I may move the post to the right topic and lock the double thread. If I change your post it will simply be an effort to keep at least some structure on the board ;-)
- The board is PG13, so feel free to perv if you want to, but anything that is not suitable for kids under 18, needs to go in the 18+ forum.
- Please try to keep your signature at a decent size. A thread can become quite hard to read if 70%
of it is signature, and only 30% actual posts. If you add a picture to your sig try to keep it at a maximum of 175 px high
and 650 px wide. It's okay if you also want to add one or two lines of small text for a quote or a link for instance.
2. Be civil to eachother:
If you disagree with someone, make sure your post does not sound angry or like an attack, and keep it about the content of the post. Don't start dissing or flaming the poster. Everyone has a right to an opinion, just make sure you phrase it in a civil way.
Saying: 'He sucks' can easily be rephrased as 'I don't think he is a very good actor'. Feel the difference?
Also do your best to respect other people's opinions. When a discussion gets to heated and it is clear neither party will change their minds, it may be best to agree to disagree and leave it there.
How to deal with upsetting posts
If a post makes you angry, don't post back right away. Walk away first and calm down a little. Or write the post you want but don't actually post it yet. Once you wrote it the anger may have already been vented. Let that post rest of a day or so.
Then, if you still want to reply, reread the initial post. Is it really written as badly as you thought first? Could they maybe have meant it differently?
Then, if you still want to reply, write a new post and make sure it is civil and calm and without flaming or adressing the person instead of the post.
Then rewrite it to make it even more fair and civil.
THEN you can post it.
Try to always realise that with written word, you may miss a lot of information about how it was meant. There is no sound of voice, intonation, facial expression, movements of hands or other bodylanguage.
Always think about this when you read but also when you write a post. Message Board drama's can be very emotional for a lot of people, but are usually very tedious and unnessecary. I will never stop someone stating an opninion, but I may ask them to rephrase it if it causes trouble.
How to deal with trolls
Sometimes people will try to make you angry on purpose. These people are called trolls. The best way to deal with people and posts of this nature is to simply ignore them.
I don't like banning people. They just spoof and re-register. Ignoring them usually works best, because if they don't get what they want (which is flame wars and upset people) they will simply move elsewhere.
3. What I do NOT have rules/requests for (or what is not a problem):
- Most other stuff..

- Going OT for a bit in a thread is no problem for me.
- Posting short posts like 'I agree!' or
with just a laughing smilie to show you find something funny is no problem for me either.
I won't go around the board punishing anyone that is not doing it perfectly. Just try to use some common sense to keep the board readable. So if you go OT for to long, try taking it to another thread of make a new topic for it.
I intend to interfere as an admin/moderator as little as possible. What I may do is move some stuff around to keep a little structure going. If you are new don't be afraid to experiment a bit. If you inadvertently make any mistakes, I will simply point them out to you nicely, so you can learn from them, but don't feel insulted or punished by that in any way!
Furthermore, I may find out in the future that we do need more rules (or 'requests'
)
and if then will simply try to make them up together with the members of the board and add them in here.
