Scottish National Portrait Gallery – photographic portraits

Some of Scotland’s most famous faces from Sir Sean Connery to David Tennant are to appear in a new collection of photographic portraits which will be unveiled in the refurbished Scottish National Portrait Gallery when it opens on Thursday 1 December.

Hot Scots, a display of 18 works, recently acquired for the national collection will feature well known Scottish names from TV, film and music including current Hollywood stars James McAvoy and Gerard Butler. Among the other new portraits on show will be images of Dr Who actor Karen Gillan, writer Armando Iannucci, singer Paolo Nutini, Michelin star chef Tom Kitchin and artist and playwright John Byrne. The portraits have been taken by celebrated photographers from Eva Vermandel to Albert Watson.

Hot Scots will be shown in the new Contemporary Gallery on the ground floor. Home to special loan exhibitions and a series of displays from the Gallery’s collection of contemporary portraits, the new exhibition space will also feature commissions from some of Scotland’s most celebrated contemporary artists.

It doesn't strike me funny at all. It's why I hardly ever go to museums, except in the UK! Museums in the UK are so much more fun than in most other countries.

I appreciate museums that don't take themselves too seriously. This coming from someone who once went to see an exhibit on the history of Jell-O for a chuckle. Grin

"State of Play" is GREAT!!! I bought the DVDs last year from Amazon because James was in it but I love it for all kind of reasons!! The entire cast is wonderful!! Bill Nighy is perfect in his role & I could listen to Kelly MacDonald talk all day....I discovered Jon Simm who really smoldered in this....& JM just owned the screen anytime he was on it....he has some of the best lines in the whole thing!!

It is a great story with great acting!! It's very cool that BBC America is airing this. (all the dramas they show are soooo good, I loved "The Hour").

SOOOO agree with you, Island and Dana!!! Now if only I still got BBCAmerica.

So maybe I'll watch the series via my DVD as it's being broadcast, and I can pretend I still get it.
