Ok I'll start...so I went to see this Francoiz Ozon film "Angel" with Romola Garai...it was opening at this old but very classy cinema...oh and
it was a premiere in my country
Me and me mate arrived a bit early and were pleasantly surprised to see one of our countries actually the best of our
countries directors and this film critic who is very well known plus other cheek people...and then out of no where these kids dressed as angels were giving
everyone a little bells and sweets and fruits...extraordinary lovely...and the whole feeling was so welcomed...so I suppose not always the best choice are
those huge cinemas... |

I saw Angel a few weeks back. It is visually splendid and scenicly sumptuous. That it is based on a story by Elizabeth Taylor should be the biggest
clue as to what the story is like - naively fantastical, poor girl makes rich, out of phase with reality. The final scenes were far more engaging than the
early ones, and gave a better range for the lead actress of that age period. The whole movie hearkens back to those early movies of the 50's and 60's
in style and content. This movie would be best for those who see a lot of movies and have a critical eye; general audiences who see maybe one movie a year may
be a little disapointed unless they are into the older style movie.
More recently I saw two French comedies. Both have a fair amount of English as well, and the interaction between the two languages aided the comedy flow nicely. The first was "Two Days in Paris". A very clever script with an unusual couple with slightly different backgrounds to most love stories, the slow unfolding of the dysfunctional relationship, the equally offbeat family and an amazing collection of ex-lovers slowly revealed. Not so much emotionally engaging as intellectual which rarely works for comedy but comes together nicely here. The other movie was "Twice upon a Time" - a very witty, cutting and scathing script with some amazing actors. The interplay of underlying emotions is a symphony in itself. It is wonderful to watch older actors enjoying such good roles - movies are not just for the young and pretty, true talent does not disappear with age. This movie is a little slice out of their lives towards the twilight of their years but is no less humorous and delightful. As well as finally getting to see Atonement yesterday, I also saw "National Treasure - Book of Secrets". This has no social significance, no redeaming emotional content but serves up exactly what is expected with a reprise of all the major characters from the original movie. It is a running/chasing movie as they move from one country to another chasing spurious clues and leads to a fantasy 'treasure'. Any relation to reality is purely coincidental, but it is still a load of fun I like Nick Cage, and Ed Harris is wonderful as a villain, the rest of the cast are also fun and interesting. If your style is this type of movie, you will find it hugely enjoyable. |

I just saw I am Legend:
I thought it was a wonderful movie that actually caused me to cry a little.. I was shocked to see that the advertising of the movie was all wrong. I thought it was mainly going to be a 100% action film, this is not at all what is.. I believe it really shows an intimate look at what a person would really go through emotionally and physically if they were to believe they were the last human not infected on earth. The film of course does have a lot of action scenes, which I believe were done excellently and the "creatures" do have a realistic look to them. The action scenes could make you a little motion sick because they go into his perspective i.e like you were him, a few times and I got a wee bit dizzy. Other than the obvious CGI effects ( like I said werent too bad ) it was pretty believable in the sense.. Its a surprising movie
that I think will make people think and feel more than they were expecting..
the end. see no spoilers that arent already in the trailer

I'm so jealous you guys have time to go out and see new movies. It takes a lot of coordinating to be able to see one. Most of the time I take the kids to
see the latest animated film. Of course, the last film I saw was Atonement, but before that was Enchanted. It's only partially animated but the kids still
liked most of it. I thought it was adorable (although a bit cheesy at times). For the most part it was witty and playful, especially how they played with the
idea of the princess singing out to the "woodland" creatures for help, which in this case are New York's version of helpful creatures: rats,
flies, cockroaches, pigeons. The cheesy parts come with the singing and dancing in Central Park, but I guess that goes along with the fairytale Disney story.
I'm not sure what the next grown up film I want to watch will be. I'll probably watch Atonement one more time. Juno looks like a really great film so I'd love to catch that sometime soon.

Just *slightly* obsessed with JM

I understand totally where you're coming from Theresa. And I have feel empathy for you not having that freedom to come and go to a movie of your choice
when you want to. I rememkber those days very well when my children were small. I use to cry because I would want to go see a movie so bad, but of course, my
children and family came first. I seen my share of every kid movie ever made. hee hee
But I am indeed making up for it now. I am like addicted to movie theatres. I seen 3 movies back to back, last Friday night. Started at 7:00pm......the third one ended at 2:45am. That is one great thing about being single..................the freedom is GREAT!!!!!!!

Being older and single can be really great - people ask if I miss having someone around and quite frankly - no - I've done my bit raising a child on my own
and being restricted and now can revel in having only myself to please. Don't fret, you will all get a chance to do the same thing sometime.
I really appreciate the comments about "PS I Love You" - the few reviews I have heard have not been complimentary, so you give me encouragement to see it (and I do quite like Gerard). |

We saw Juno last night. It's really good. The actress who plays the main role is quite something. It's a good story, and all the supporting actors are superb as well.

I've heard really great reviews about 'Juno', Dorothy!!! Ellen Page, the main character is supposed to be amazing in the movie, and she is a great
upcoming actress!! Her film 'Hard Candy', I heard was great too!! I liked her in X-Men 3 even though it wasn't a particularly large role for her.
Plus, she's Canadian!!!
