I thought it was an interesting movie because it was such a different role for him. He was an English Marquis de Sade which I found very interesting because
everyone thinks of Johnny Depp in a certain way and this blew that away. I agree with Selivia about him not afraid to look disgusting or even scary. Near the
end, he definitely frightened me; he looked like something out of my nightmares and I thought that was brilliant. It's definitely an underrated film and I
wish more people would see it.

...well...The Libertine...absolutely blew me away...loved it from the beginning to the end...especially the prologue and the epilogue..I don't think
I've ever seen that before in any film...and I still can't believe Johnny didn't get and Oscar nomination for that role...bastards!!!!!
(one of the best lines isn't it...?

I really don't have much to say on this film...
Conceptually and keeping to that period of time, I suppose it was good... Otherwise I really REALLY disliked this film! Nobody can change my mind about it.

Definitely an interesting film with some great lines, great costumes and great acting.
Samantha Morton was great as usual.

Some time ago, sine I saw this movie. What really got stuck in myy mind that the acting was great and he really somehow managed to get through that last line.
That he didn't want to be liked, but at the same time I felt pity.
Check out the new Ewan McGregor Board
Ewanland.

I finally rented this movie.. and I didn't like it at all. The story was boring. Having an MC you cannot sympathise with is never a great idea for a movie,
but at least let us doubt about liking him.. but no.. he wasn't likeable at all. And the structure of the film was very flawed. I had to rewind that scene
where his friend gets stabbed about 5 times to see what the hell happened there. It was a weird scene, just somewhere in the middle of the film with no
motivation. And it is only mentioned again once afterwards.. apparently he ran away or something? Not done very well. The whole Samantha Morton thing was a bit
weird. Especially when at the end he suddenly decides he loves her and wanted her baby and she tells him they have a daughter.. I dunno, somehow after his
syphilis is discovered the whole storyline goes to hell and becomes scattered, unmotivated and uninteresting.
