Some people know about it but need a reminder, some just need to be told so that they can embrace the wonderful world of writing.
Welcome to NaNo, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo or more fully NAtional NOvel WRiting MOnth
There is an international (yes, I know the title says "national" but when it was expanded to the international writing community the name had already
stuck and sounds better anyway) project whereby writers come together to participate in a challenge to write a novel in one calendar month, and that month is
November. The challenge is to write a minimum 50,000 words (and hopefully finish the story in not much more than that) in the 30 days of November.
There is a website to sign on and receive help while planning and writing and the kudos of completing the challenge. There are forums based on
nationality/location and by genre and loads of people to help you achieve the goal.

There are some people here who regularly sign on every year.
It's fun, and useful, to talk to each other during this time even if our other internet'ing activity drops down a little, and Hannah is a great
mentor.
If you have ever written anything just for your own pleasure, or for a select group of friends, I strongly urge you to consider joining in the fun and accept the challenge. Even if you don't complete it, there is a lot to learn about yourself and the way you write to make this a valuable exercise.
Come along and join in the fun, and let us know your sign on's so we can friend each other and offer a little support and encouragement. If you do friend any of us, please let us know who you are here so that we don't sit looking at the screen with a puzzled expression, particularly if you end up with a different name to the one you have here
My NaNo name is Selivia (naturally <g>

And we do have 5 weekends in this
month this year!
